The newest release by UK Publisher Twisted Jukebox, Land of Adventures is a soaring and epic collection of music spearheaded by my own piece, The Witch and the Butterfly. Among the 16 pieces, two more efforts of mine are included within the top six, Dragon Rider and Beyond the Horizon. The former is a bit of an homage to one of my favorite composers for Film. I bet you can spot it...
HuffPost Entertainment - Legendary AD
Here is a nice write-up by Morena Duwe on my friend Leonardo's upcoming documentary on Assistant Directors, mentioned a few months ago (see posts below). After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Leonardo has managed to interview even more "Legends" of the trade, adding even more mystique to a documentary filled with stories about our very favorite films, directors and stars. Fresh off winning "Best Film" in two European Film Festivals, I received news a couple of days ago that our documentary "The City Under the Sea" (not to be confused with the 1965 eponymous sci-fi flick) will have its US Premiere at the Carnegie Institute for Science in Washington DC on March 29, 2015. We are excited as this venue reflects the scientific interest that goes into the endless dedication and hours invested by the filmmakers, Guy and Anita, who painstakingly and patiently wait out their "stars" underwater, to catch and film a glimpse of previously unseen behavior. ControlFreaks and the Jackman
Besides working on my own projects, I have another musical venture with my friend Bryan Kelley, called ControlFreaks Music. We write a lot of Pop or Rock oriented music that ends up in trailers, promos and ads. Occasionally, we get really lucky and our music is used in something lovely. Like this thoughtful and giving ad from MasterCard, starring Hugh Jackman, who I think is a phenomenal entertainer. Enjoy...
Musings and predictions
Apparently I'm either lazy or quite busy, as the website seems to get updated less frequently. I like to think it's the latter... Either way, "City Under the Sea" was successfully wrapped up several months ago and is now officially part of the National Geographic family. My thanks go out to Anita and Guy, who are always a joy to work with, even during crunch time!

Since finishing the documentary, I've been working toward several very different releases for separate music libraries; styles include "family adventure" with a mysterious and epic feel, as in this intro from one of the titles: The Witch and the Butterfly_Excerpt
Other music is far more Jazz-oriented and typical of "Heist" films, with loads of influences from the '60s - very cool to play with, providing much opportunity for experimentation. Here the final section of one of the tracks on the album (mockup only): 7-Getaway Excerpt
Other music still, is geared towards usage in sports.
On the more artistic side, I have also been wrestling with research and thoughts for the new documentary on which I've started to work. The subject matter is WWII, the Frank family and the way that message is being delivered to the newest generation of the world. It has been very intense so far and I expect it to continue being intense. I'm planning a rather large recording session on this one in order to capture the right mood, but I am yet to nail down the exact ensemble. The coming weeks will provide clarity as the score begins to take shape, morphing from abstract ideas into concrete notes.
Finally, I think it is a time during which many Europeans, either at home or, like me, abroad, look at their homeland with trepidation in light of the events of this past week. We continue to hope for the best. In the meantime:

The City Under the Sea
These are very busy weeks as I write the score to the latest documentary by renowned filmmakers Liquid Motion Film. As always, the footage looks amazing; countless hours of patience on the part of Guy and Anita have flown into catching the perfect moment with these marine creatures. The film is filled with new scientific information, and writing music that brings wondrous and humorous moods to the scenes is proving to be a lot of fun. Can't wait to share some bits in the near future.

I am pleased to be helping my friend, Leonardo Corbucci, in his quest to finish production of his newest documentary, LEGENDARY AD. For those who are not familiar with the term, the Assistant Director is responsible for general order on a film set, his/her duties including call sheets for the actors, overseeing cast and crew, logistics and general well-being. As you can imagine, a person in this situation has a lot of stories to tell. In his documentary, Leonardo interviews some of the most successful ADs in film history: Star Wars, The Godfather, Superman, Batman, etc.
Specific plans for the film will be announced in 9 days and we have prepared a trailer to showcase some of the stories you can expect to hear (you can hear some of my original music along with arrangements of existing famous soundtracks).

A World Without Princes

Once again, I had the pleasure to collaborate with the great Soman Chainani on the trailer for his second book in the series The School For Good And Evil: A World Without Princes. This time, Manny Palad and Michael Blank went for a mix of CGI and live action and the results are really cool. It was a lot of fun composing and producing the music for it. You can watch it here.

Well, it has been quite a while since my last update. These past few months have been very busy: an incredible cross-country trip from NY to LA, setting up shop here and getting right to work on shows for Discovery and others. In the midst of this working feast, I was informed that music I had previously composed for SONG OF THE DUNES, a documentary by Paula Fouce about the caste system in India, has been married to a video poem by artist Cecilia Woloch. The poem is part of a larger exhibition at the WROCLAW CONTEMPORARY MUSEUM in Poland. The exhibit is dedicated to bringing the topic of Roma people within society out of our common marginal treatment. It runs from February 2 to May 19, 2014. Needless to say, I am very pleased to contribute to an important and overdue topic such as this one. Have a look below:

'Whimsically Eccentric' - Solo Album Released

After a fun-filled few months of conjuring up the quirkiest and lovingly warmest in me, Whimsically Eccentric, my solo album effort for London-based Twisted Jukebox has been released. Filled with recorders, various flutes, accordion and a multitude of percussion, the 11 tracks, available in full length as well as in 60, 30 and 15 second cut-downs, are now available for licensing and download. Be it for advertising, underscore or anything else, one of these musical pieces will raise a smile on your lips!

After a few weeks of wait, the official trailer to Soman Chainani's much anticipated young adult fantasy novel has been released on Entertainment Weekly's website. You can also find it in the 'Reel' section of this site. The book launches May 14th. Keep an eye out: you will want to read this one, young adult or not - it's just too gripping!
